State of Emergency – Jamaica

Many of you will have heard about the state of emergency imposed on the parish of St. James Jamaica, which affects Montego bay.

We have looked at all the information available and the advice given by both the UK and Jamaican governments suggests that the imposed restrictions may have the following effect on travellers:

  1. The lengthening of your journey by road – so persons should plan for this.
  2. Cause vehicles to be checked and occupants asked questions.
  3. Lead to more intensive law enforcement.

Clients should:

  1. Follow local advice.
  2. Limit movements outside resorts in St. James.
  3. Exercise care particularly in the evenings.
  4. Excursions should only be undertaken when booked with organised tour operators or resort hotel.
  5. Expect road closures and avoid protests and demonstrations.
